About Testament Health and Wellness
I’m Tess Thompson, founder and lead practitioner of Testament Health & Wellness. I created the practice from a deep passion for root-cause, systems-based healthcare and for helping people understand what may be underlying persistent, complex or unresolved health concerns.
My work brings together Functional Medicine, Nutritional Therapy and Naturopathy, along with additional specialist training and lived experience. I look at the individual as a whole, using deeper investigation, specialist laboratory testing and targeted approaches to identify the factors most relevant to their health.
My aim is to provide informed, personalised and practical support that helps people make sense of their health and work towards meaningful improvement, recovery and better long-term wellbeing

Training and Specialisms.
I qualified in Nutritional Therapy and Naturopathy through the College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM), with training grounded in biomedicine, Nutritional Therapy and a broad range of naturopathic and therapeutic approaches, including herbal medicine, mycotherapy, homeopathy and environmental medicine. This gives me a broad scientific and holistic foundation for the way I work today.
I have since expanded my expertise through further training in Functional Medicine, specialist laboratory testing, complex chronic illness, PANS/PANDAS and neuroimmune health, tick-borne illness, mould and mycotoxin-related illness, immune regulation including Micro-immunotherapy, and mitochondrial and metabolic health.
I am also involved in specialist practitioner and clinician networks across these specialist areas, giving me ongoing access to clinical discussion and collaborative learning.
I am also trained in IV Nutrient Therapy and phlebotomy, and run dedicated IV nutrient clinics alongside phlebotomy services for specialist laboratory testing. These services allow me to offer an additional clinical layer within practice, both to support deeper investigation and, where suitable, more targeted nutritional and restorative support.
I am a registered member of the General Naturopathic Council (GNC) and the Association of Naturopathic Practitioners (ANP), and a member of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS).
Earlier Career & Experience
Before my current clinical training and practice, I worked as a Special Educational Needs (SEN) teacher, supporting children with complex and additional needs in both the UK and internationally. That experience gave me a strong understanding of complex needs, neurodiversity, individual differences, behavioural presentations, communication challenges and the wider impact these can have on families, all of which continues to inform the way I work today.
My earlier life experiences laid the foundations for much of the path I have followed. My younger sister was born with medical and special needs and lit up my life. From a young age, I knew I wanted to work in some way with children or health – two areas that have continued to shape my work over the years and now often come together in what I do today.
My Approach
Health needs to be understood as an interconnected system, rather than as a collection of isolated symptoms.
The gut, immune system, nervous system, hormones, metabolism, inflammation, nutritional status, genetics, environment and lifestyle all influence one another. This is why I use a systems-based and root-cause approach, looking not only at what is happening, but why it may be happening and how different systems may be interacting. A diagnosis can describe what is happening, but it does not always explain why it is happening.
Symptoms are important signals, but they do not tell us the whole story. Fatigue, anxiety, brain fog, digestive symptoms, poor sleep or changes in mood and concentration can reflect several contributing factors at once. Looking at the body’s wider terrain such as immune and inflammatory activity, gut health, nutrient status, blood sugar regulation, mitochondrial function, infections, environmental exposures and stress physiology, can help provide important context.
Complex and chronic health concerns are generally multilayered, with different factors developing and interacting over time. When symptoms or individual systems are considered in isolation, important connections can be missed.
My approach is therefore proactive and investigative, looking for patterns and underlying factors that may help explain the overall health picture. Specialist testing can also provide deeper insight and help guide the next steps.
Sometimes the answers are not immediately clear, and understanding what is contributing can be a little like solving a puzzle. My role is to help you piece it all together, make sense of the findings and develop practical, sustainable strategies to support your health and recovery.
I also believe in the importance of collaborative care and maintain professional relationships with other practitioners and healthcare providers in relevant fields. This allows me to work alongside others where appropriate and refer on when additional expertise or support may be beneficial.
My Own Health Journey
My own journey into integrative health began through a deeply personal struggle with complex chronic illness. As my health progressively declined, I became increasingly frustrated and desperate for answers. I was often told there were no clear answers for my symptoms and that I would simply have to manage and live with them long term. At times, I also felt that my symptoms were being dismissed as psychological, which was deeply frustrating because I knew something physiological was happening that had not yet been uncovered.
Over time, I accumulated multiple diagnoses, but none explained the overall picture or led to meaningful improvement. Some treatments actually made me considerably worse, reinforcing my sense that treating individual symptoms and diagnoses in isolation was not addressing the underlying problem.
I knew that there had to be a connection between what was happening across multiple systems of my body. This eventually led me to Functional Medicine and integrative approaches, where I began to explore the underlying root causes.
My experience of complex illness became even more personal when I found myself navigating a significant chronic health journey with my own child. As a parent, I came to understand the helplessness and heartbreak of watching your child struggle, the relentless search for answers, and the exhaustion of having to keep advocating when appropriate recognition, understanding and support were not always easy to access. I understand first-hand the emotional weight a child’s illness can place on the whole family. Supporting her through that journey and seeing her health recover has given me an understanding of complex childhood illness that goes far beyond professional training.
As difficult as that chapter was, these experiences reshaped the way I think about health and inspired me to retrain. What began as a personal search for answers grew into a vocation I feel deeply connected to.
My work today is shaped not only by ongoing specialist development and research, but also by the perspective and understanding that comes from lived experience. That continued learning is driven by a relentless curiosity and deep personal passion for understanding complex health, alongside a strong determination to support those who may feel unsupported.
This personal journey has naturally shaped some of the areas in which I have developed specialist training and a deeper understanding, particularly around complex chronic presentations. Whatever the health concern, however, the same principles of root-cause and interconnected healthcare still apply. I look at the individual as a whole, aiming to understand what may be contributing to dysfunction and to support the body’s innate capacity for healing and recovery.
I understand how it feels when health concerns remain unexplained, unresolved or poorly understood, particularly in areas where recognition and support can still be limited. I am passionate about helping to bridge that gap through informed, integrative and compassionate care. I am committed to helping people feel listened to and supported, understand what may be contributing to their health, and work towards meaningful recovery and better health.
I feel incredibly fortunate to now do work that feels both meaningful and closely aligned with my own journey, and I find it hard to imagine doing anything else.
A Little More About Me
Outside of practice, I love spending time with my family and friends, cooking and eating, walking, exercising, yoga and reading. Life is also kept very full by my two young children and their increasingly busy social lives, along with our crazy dog. I can happily lose myself in DIY projects, pottering in the garden or researching something that has caught my interest.
Summer makes me especially happy, and I love beach days, picnics and being outside. In winter, I’m equally happy with a long walk followed by a cosy afternoon at home with games or a film. I’m especially drawn to the calm of the coast, whether that’s being in the water, near it, or simply sitting and staring out at the sea.
